Make Your Own Soda
If you’re unsatisfied with the limited range of flavors your local supermarket has to offer in terms of beverages, let me introduce you to SodaStream, your new soon–to–be best friend. They have created a whole range of soda siphons that allow you to create carbonated water. But the fun doesn’t end there. They’ve also created soda mixes that mimic some of the flavors of existing drinks. So you can either make your own version of your favourite soda, with less waste and less calories, or you can mix soda mixes to mix your own mix.
You can check out sodastream online for some recipes, but if you’re lazy to do that, I’ve listed down three of my personal favorites.
#1. SodaStream Recipe: Fruit Fizz
I love fruits because they’re healthy and refreshing. Summer’s at its hottest, so I think this is a great beverage to try out. What you do, is take out your soda siphon and make six ounces worth of the Diet Pink Grapefruit flavor and six ounces of the Diet Cranberry-Raspberry flavor and mix it all together in a tall glass with ice. As an optional step, the recipe recommends an orange slice for garnish, which I love.
#2. SodaStream Recipe: Sparkling Lemonade
No summer is complete without a glass of lemonade, but maybe it’s time to spice up the old childhood favorite with a little bit of CO2. It’s really easy to do as well. Just make half a glass of lemonade, and then spritz in half a glass of seltzer water, and you’ve got yourself an incredibly refreshing classic with a twist (or should I say “spritz”).
#3. SodaStream Recipe: Guilt-Free Root Beer Float
Normally I’d just pour regular root beer and scoop up some vanilla and chug away. But I promised myself that this summer I’d try to be more active and more conscious about my health, so here’s my go-to alternative. Make a half glass of the Diet Root Beer flavor and a half glass of the Diet Cream flavor, then mix it all together in a glass with crushed ice. It’s fantastic. Though, sometimes I cheat by putting a scoop of yogurt on top.
Those three are my personal favorites. You could try them, but whether or not you’ll like them is completely up to your taste buds. So take advantage of your soda siphon and come up with your own SodaStream recipe. You could even submit it to SodaStream online, and they might just list it down on their recipes page!
Good luck, and happy mixing!
